Powder Delivery System – PoDS

The Ingredient Batching Systems   PoDS has been designed to handle the delivery of minor or functional ingredients.

Ingredient Batching Systems is renowned for systems that convey a powdered product – either by pneumatic conveying or mechanical conveying - from silos or other storage facilities to the point of further processing. It doesn’t really matter if the required material throughput is hundreds of tonnes per hour or half a tonne per hour, the system needed to handle the powdered product is scaled up-or down accordingly. But what if a customer only wants to move very small amounts of ingredient per hour?

Some time ago, we designed a system for handling a range of minor, functional ingredients for a major UK based baker. This system is called the Powder Delivery System or PoDS for short. While PoDS are based on 1 tonne big-bag discharge units, silos and sack-tip stations can also be considered PoDS.

Each big-bag discharger, silo or sack-tip station – PoDS - is linked by a pneumatic conveying line to a mixing vessel. There is no limit to the number of PoDS in the conveying line and the entire system is incredibly accurate.

In addition to its accuracy, PoDS is a modular system. The design and engineering work has already been completed so delivery times are relatively short and prices are extremely competitive.

Lime Dosing

The new lime dosing system from Ingredient Batching Systems has been designed for flue gas treatment and water treatment. It has all the benefits of the previous model but with the additional advantage that it now has the latest electronics and is a modular design for faster delivery to a customer’s site.

Using lime as an effective and economic cleaning and neutralizing agent against flue gasses in industrial chimneys and for water treatment plants is all about the way that the lime is targeted. Over the past few years, technology has improved to the point where today, it is possible to identify the precise point where the lime should be targeted in order for it to be most effective. Our dosing rig makes this possible.

The hardware is the key element. The early dosing rigs consisted of a mildly modified FIBC discharge chassis fitted with a blower and basic control unit. These were fine while standard doses were all that were required of it but once a customer wanted anything other than to deliver a standard dose it was back to the drawing board. The latest version from Ingredient Batching Systems has the ability to vary the dosing levels during delivery and so provides all the flexibility that a customer is likely to need. Also, because it is of modular design and construction it can be supplied much more quickly than the earlier versions which were individually engineered.

But while the design is modular, customers still have the option to specify from a list of different components or static or mobile units. For those customers who don’t need to run the dosing rig on a permanent basis or are interested in trials, Ingredient Batching Systems can offer short and medium term rental agreements.

Bakery

PoDS – Powder Delivery System – has been designed for those bakers who need to move from a labour intensive batch preparation process to one that is fast and, more to the point, highly accurate. PoDS effectively increases production through automation and eliminates all those health and safety issues associated with manual tipping.

Once a recipe has been agreed – the weights of flour, yeast, salt and whatever other active ingredients that will determine the type of loaf that the baker wants – PoDS takes over. The idea of hand dosing valuable ingredients could be consigned to the history books because not only is PoDS incredibly accurate, it is infinitely repeatable until the baker needs to make changes to the recipe. And it isn’t just bulk ingredients that PoDS can handle, it is equally adept at handling minor ingredients and improvers.

PoDS isn’t just for huge bakeries working from multiple sites. Small to medium sized bakeries have exactly the same problems with regards to consistency. For small bakeries having to increase production, it is quite a commitment to take that step from a few pallets of flour and other ingredients per month to a few tonnes per month. PoDS makes that step a little easier.  PoDS is based on 1 tonne Big-Bag dischargers so for small bakeries, a ‘starter’ system consisting of a 1 tonne discharger and a sack-tip station can be completely automated and will significantly increase production. The point is that PoDS can be expanded as the production increase. So how does it work?

Every element of PoDS is linked through a pneumatic conveying system to a mixing vessel. At its heart is an easy to programme control unit. Simply enter the recipe required and PoDS does the rest. Accuracy is from 100grammes. PoDS is a modular system and all the component parts are assembled at our factory which means that installation times are greatly reduced compared to other systems with the result that disruption to your production is minimal.

PoDS isn’t just a system for the production of bread. Our customers throughout the UK and Europe have installed it to handle recipes for cakes and confectionery also.
